Choosing a School in Naivasha: A Parent's Guide

What to actually check when comparing schools in and around Naivasha, beyond the prospectus.

Choosing a School in Naivasha: A Parent's Guide

Naivasha has grown fast, and school options have grown with it, which makes comparing them harder, not easier. Here’s a practical framework for narrowing the field, based on the questions we get most from local parents.

Start with curriculum consistency, not just “CBC”

Almost every school now says it teaches CBC. The more useful question is how consistently. Ask how long the school has been delivering CBC (not just transitioning to it), whether staff have had specific CBC training, and whether the school has been through a full cohort (Kindergarten through to Grade 9) under the system yet.

Check the day-to-boarding path, even if you only need day schooling now

Circumstances change: a job relocation, a growing family, a decision that a longer commute isn’t sustainable. A school that only offers day schooling means starting a new search from scratch if your needs shift. A school offering both, on one campus with the same teachers, lets your child switch terms without switching schools.

Ask about class sizes and teacher qualifications directly

“Small class sizes” is a common claim; the actual number is more useful. Ask directly, and ask whether teachers are TSC-registered. At Acacia Ridge, classes average 25 pupils, and every teacher is TSC-registered.

Look at the results, not just the marketing

Ask for actual recent CBC performance-level breakdowns (Exceeds/Meets/Approaches/Below Expectations), not just a general “our results are excellent.” At Acacia Ridge, our most recent cohort recorded 82% Exceeded Expectations, 9% Meets Expectations, and 9% Approaches Expectations in the 2025 KPSEA.

Factor in the commute honestly

Naivasha’s growth means some estates are now a genuine haul from town-centre schools during peak traffic. If you’re off the highway toward Karai, Kongoni, or similar areas, a campus positioned on the Nairobi–Naivasha highway itself can mean a shorter, more predictable run than a school in central Naivasha.
